What We Learned

  • Be a facilitator and accelerator not a gatekeeper. Find ways to include people.
  • Companies are often hard to communicate across so things get reinvented.
  • Introducing a new system adds complexity. Only removing an old system reduces complexity.
  • Don’t try to solve every problem. Do one thing well. (Don’t ignore the big problems though).
  • Don’t just build tooling; model processes.
  • Tools are temporary, ideas are forever…(well a bit longer than tools anyway).
  • Add value without adding complexity.
  • Teams depend on your stuff. You should too!
  • Don’t build everything straight away. Get something out there and embrace feedback.
  • Work with people. Go and speak to them and include their ideas.
  • The real problem you’re solving is not technical, it’s people.
  • Ensure senior management understand the problem and support you.
